First Class First Cohort of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute September 25, 2008
The Nonprofit Leadership Institute was founded by NonProfit Solutions NW and South Puget Sound Community College in partnership with the Business Resource Center of the Economic Development Council of Thurston County, the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Thurston County, and other nonprofit and corporate sponsors. This program is the first of its kind in the south Puget Sound area.
The purpose of The Nonprofit Leadership Institute is to provide:
- a comprehensive curriculum that will help assure agency sustainability in the future
- high caliber instruction
- a class schedule sensitive to the needs of the nonprofit professional and the organizations they serve
- college credits that can be applied to college/university degree programs
- enjoyable collaboration and personal networking among class participants that will extend far beyond the term of the program

We are very proud to announce the faculty for the first cohort of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute. This talented group of individuals will provide guidance and instruction to participants in this important workforce development program.
Traci Crowder, Behavioral Health Resources
Traci Crowder is Director of Service Support for Behavioral Health Resources in Olympia, WA, with responsibility for quality assurance and improvement, risk management, medical records, staff development, support staff and HIPAA Privacy Officer. She has also worked for Cascade Mental Health Care and St. Francis Health System.
Margaret Hoyer, Associate Dean of Leadership and Management Development, South Puget Sound Community College
Margaret has over 30 years of public sector management experience, facilitates group process and strategic planning, and is an adjunct faculty for the national professional credentialing Washington Certified Public Manager program.
Sherry Jennings, Principal, Sound Governance
Sherry Jennings has over 30 years experience in organizational development and leadership training. Sherry has served on and for Boards of Directors for over 18 years. Sherry was chief executive of a national nonprofit organization serving nearly 200,000 members for 10 years.
Todd Monohon, Principal, Olympic Leadership
Todd Monohon has wide experience in both the business and non-profit sectors. For the past 25 years he has blended both by working for several social service and educational organizations while developing numerous successful business partnerships and operating businesses. This real world experience, along with advanced educational opportunities led him to apply the best practices of leadership and management across all economic sectors
Susan Secker, Principal, SLS Leadership
Susan L. Secker, former provost of Seattle University, is a consultant in leadership development with SLS Consulting, LLC. Dr. Secker has held senior leadership positions that include responsibilities for strategic planning, team building, diversifying the workforce, and cultivating ethical leadership.
Evelyn Shankus, Professor, University of Washington Tacoma
Professor Shankus has been an educator with UWT for 12 years. Previous to her teaching experience, Professor Shankus was a staffing consultant for McCall Personal in San Francisco, and for the Eastridge Group, also in San Francisco. She has extensive experience in recruiting, training and staffing organizations and also applying human resource information systems data for decision-making purposes.
Norm Smith, Principal, NR Smith & Associates
NRSmith and Associates, PS render professional accounting services to over 400 clients. The firm's core service is accounting and auditing. Its CPAs are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants. The firm takes pride in having nearly forty years' experience in using core accounting and auditing expertise to assist clients to meet their objectives.
Suzann Stahl, Principal, NonProfit Solutions NW
Following a successful 20 year career in the corporate world, Suzann Stahl has served the south Puget Sound nonprofit business community for more than 15 years as an consultant, executive, board member, board president and volunteer. She is a co-founder and past president of South Sound Partners for Philanthropy.
